For Ages 16+

This engaging 4-hour class will introduce techniques for making glass beads with a torch. Often called lampworking or flameworking, this practice dates back to the ancient Egyptians.

Suitable for complete beginners and those with prior experience, students will enhance both their technical and design skills. Comprehensive instruction includes how to set up a torch, melt glass rods into beads, and decorate the beads using various techniques. The class includes a discussion about creating jewelry with handmade beads, such as necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.

After this class, students will have the skills and knowledge to continue flameworking independently. Participants will complete as many beads as they are able to create. All supplies and materials are included with registration.

Note: Melting glass requires high temperatures, and students will be required to wear provided protective glasses (these are lightweight, easy to see through, and remove the intensity of the flare from the flame), long pants, and closed shoes.
