For Ages 16+
Are you looking to enhance your creative practice by integrating conceptual imagery, symbolism, cultural context, and personal significance for a more profound impact? Teaching Artist Bright Kontor Osei has created this class to help students build confidence in articulating their ideas through art.
Students will begin this seven-week class by creating personally relevant found-object hanging relief sculptures using accessible, alternative materials. Even raw materials can be a vehicle for self-expression, as students learn how to mix acrylic paint from scratch, combining essential and unconventional ingredients in unique and meaningful ways. Lastly, participants will apply core art and design principles, incorporating their custom paints, into a graphic poster conveying an idea they believe deserves visibility and public discourse.
Art as Practice is open to all art enthusiasts and practitioners – beginner through advanced – who crave the thought-provoking exchange of ideas and emotions that impactful art can inspire. As part of the class experience, the Teaching Artist will invite students to engage with some of his own artwork in the classroom, gaining an introduction to the fundamentals of exhibiting artwork publicly.
