A296 Comix Guild: Part 1
with Ariel Martian
**Dairy Barn Members at the Individual Level or higher enjoy a 10% Discount**
For Ages 16+
Join Dairy Barn Teaching Artist, Ariel Martian, in drawing inspiration by the books “Cartooning” by Ivan Brunetti, and “Making Comics” by Lynda Barry. In this new class, Ariel shares her decades-long experience drawing comics, offering students a space to explore comics as a dynamic visual story telling medium.
The emphasis in the class will be a DIY approach to story-telling through sequential drawing. We’ll cover some finer points specific to cartooning, such as penciling, inking, panel design, word balloon styles, and sound effects. We’ll also explore different printing and binding methods.
In Comix Guild: Part 1, students will explore simple story-telling techniques with and without words; dabble in character design, and layout; then finally bring these elements all together in a simple, but versatile, folded zine format.
Students should purchase their own mixed-media sketchbook in size of choice.
