B420 Three-Dimensional Wholecloth Quilting

$159

with Brent McGee

Calendar May 25, 2025 at 9:30 am

**Dairy Barn Members at the Individual Level or higher enjoy a 10% Discount**

For Ages 16+

Join Quilt National ‘25 exhibiting artist, Brent McGee, for an immersive hand-sewing workshop that transforms fabric into dynamic, sculptural forms. Using techniques borrowed from couture fashion, this class explores intuitive methods for shaping fabric beyond the flat quilt surface. Empowered with needle and thread, students will create a small wall hanging while learning to coax organic, dimensional structures from within. Brandish your needle like a sword, and join the fun as you unearth new forms hiding in the fabric!

Open to all experience levels, this workshop offers a fresh approach to hand-stitching, whether you’re new to needlework or an experienced hand sewer looking for an innovative and expressive technique. Step away from the machine, embrace the art of handwork, and discover the creative possibilities of sculpting with fabric.

This technique utilizes accessible and affordable supplies. Students can review the Materials List of items they are asked to bring. The Dairy Barn will provide the recommended batting and some communally available extra materials.

About Brent McGee

Brent McGee is a quilt artist known for his innovative three-dimensional sculptural quilts. What began as a simple request from his sister to make a quilt in 2020 quickly blossomed into a full-fledged artistic career. His work has earned recognition through several regional Best in Show awards and has been featured at prestigious events like the Houston International Quilt Festival, AQS Quilt Week in Paducah and Lancaster, and Quilt National 2025.

Before embracing quilting, Brent had a varied artistic background, having worked as a Broadway musician, piano bar entertainer, and high school choir director. These diverse experiences infuse his quilts with a unique sense of rhythm, movement, and flow.

He lives with his husband and three dogs on the Olympic Peninsula in Shelton, Washington where he continues to create, lecture, and lead workshops nationwide, inspiring others to explore the transformative power of fiber art.

$235

with Sara Severns, Jessica Held

Calendar Jul 28, 2025 at 10 am, runs for 1 week

Teen Art Campers are provided in-depth opportunities to explore visual art media and making. Small groups allow for collaboration with each other and the experienced Teaching Artists. All stages of the creative process are emphasized -- concept, planning, and execution.

This summer, campers will discover the art of printmaking with Sara Severns, learning techniques like linocut and screen printing. They'll explore how printmaking can be used in both fine art and streetwear design, gaining practical experience in creating their own prints.

With Jessica Held, campers will explore fiber arts through batik and embroidery. They'll experiment with wax resist and dye to create unique fabric designs and practice embroidery stitches to add texture and detail to their work.

Throughout the week, teens will build confidence in their artistic abilities, express themselves freely, and connect with peers who share their passion for art!

Payment plan available: $50 deposit plus 4 payments of $46.25, paid every four weeks.
