A269 Intro to Stained Glass

For Ages 16+
This 5-week class will introduce the tools and techniques of stained glass construction. Students will learn the Tiffany method, also called the copper foil method, to create a design that showcases the beauty of stained glass. Designs can be supplied, or students may wish to consult with the instructor about creating their own design.
Students who have no experience with stained glass are welcome, as well as students who have some experience but wish to build upon that foundation. All supplies and materials for this class are included with registration.

This Class does NOT meet on Wednesday, September 17. Class dates are 9/10, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29 & 11/5
This class is a great opportunity to start your journey into functional ceramics. The potter’s wheel is a useful tool with a long history. In this class you will learn all the fundamentals of throwing pottery, from preparing the clay to glazing the surface.
Demonstrations include cylinders, mugs, handles, bowls and trimming. Available Open Studio time outside of regular scheduled classes, assures that you will have plenty of time to practice your new skills.
Tools and materials for this class are included with registration.

A265 Fundamentals of Drawing

For Ages 16+
This class is designed especially for those who want to learn how original drawings are created “from scratch", how to apply basic and essential drawing techniques to their drawings, and how to draw with confidence as they develop their own individual style.
All students of every skill level are welcome. Whether this is your first drawing class or you want to dust off skills you’ve already acquired, you will receive the support and personal attention you need to enhance and advance your drawing abilities.
Class content includes short drawing exercises to clarify the drawing concept covered that week along with longer still-life set-ups where those concepts are applied. The instructor provides demonstrations and individual instruction upon request. Your questions and observations will form a valuable part of your class experience.
Students bring their own 11" x 14" Drawing Pad with at least 24 sheets of 80 lb.(or above) paper weight. All other black & white art materials are provided.

For Ages 16+
This class is for all students interested in advancing their painting skills and is intended for any skill level and experience. Beginners and more experienced painters alike benefit from class exercises and in-studio personal instruction designed to build confidence in their individual choices while gaining a solid understanding of painting fundamentals.
Using still life set-ups, each of the eight classes covers step-by-step, essential elements found in successful paintings, including but not limited to...
- How color and value work together to build form.
- How composition, perspective, and scale combine for the best results.
Special focus will be on how to manage color and enhance the overall experience of painting. Addressed early in the class will be the proper care and maintenance of painting tools, and the differences between painting mediums, brushes, and canvases. Oil paints are provided as they are easiest to manage, forgiving, and have a slower drying time.

Working in oil, participants will explore color, value, scale, and composition through dynamic still life setups. Each session blends guided exercises with individual feedback, helping students strengthen what they know and confidently try new techniques. While the class focuses on oil painting, concepts apply to any color medium. Perfect for painters ready to refine their skills and develop a more intentional, expressive style. Topics include:

A268 Print & Patch

**Dairy Barn Members at the Individual Level or higher enjoy a 10% Discount**
For Ages 14+ (Those under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult)
Improvisation and creativity are at the forefront of this class, featuring both printmaking and the fiber arts. Print & Patch students will learn different methods of textile surface design, carve their own printmaking blocks, naturally dye fabrics with indigo, and print patterned fabric.
In the latter part of this 8-week class, classmates are invited to share the fabric they created with each other, as they begin construction of a patchwork or mini-quilt project which can take any shape. Participants will take home handmade creations that celebrate community and the renewable spirit of patchwork.
This class is well suited for those without previous print or textile experience, as well as makers with knowledge of some or both methods looking for a new way to approach fiber arts. All materials and tools are provided for participants, including printmaking blocks, fabric, indigo dye, and sewing tools.

Are you or do you know a teen interested in creating public art and/or storytelling projects with our Ohio home state as inspriation? This is a unique opportunity for young art students to explore the creative process from concept to exhibition—creating original imagery and text that reflect their unique perspectives.
Art students will collaborate across multiple panels on a multimedia public art installation as part of Athens County Public Libraries’ Stories in the Park exhibit at Richland Avenue Park. Images of the final artworks and writing will appear on exhibit panels designed by the Athens County Public Libraries’ graphic designer.
