For Ages 16+
Join teaching artist, Alix Rondy, on a guided adventure with brush and canvas. Participants will create a unique 11”x 14" painting based on a common theme.
Join us as we explore the imaginative and thought-provoking work of Swiss-German artist Paul Klee. An innovator in abstraction, color, and symbolism, Klee believed that art could communicate ideas and emotions beyond what words alone could express. Especially in his later works, he explored fascinating questions such as: When does a symbol become a language? and How much information does a viewer need before they begin inventing the rest?
At first glance, Klee's paintings can appear playful and deceptively simple. Look a little longer, however, and you'll discover layers of meaning shaped by his curiosity, imagination, and lived experiences during a time of political upheaval and declining health. Rather than depicting the world as it appears, Klee sought to reveal patterns, relationships, and emotions that often lie beneath the surface.
Students will take inspiration from Klee's thoughtful creative process rather than simply imitating his style. They will build their paintings slowly, one shape at a time, allowing each mark to influence the next. As colors, symbols, and patterns accumulate, a unique visual language will begin to emerge—one that reflects each artist's own imagination and way of seeing. No prior painting experience is necessary; this workshop is about exploration, curiosity, and discovering how simple forms can grow into something unexpectedly meaningful.
Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Neon Cow Bar will have wine, and beer available for purchase by participants over age 21. (Outside alcohol prohibited.)
