Saturday & Sunday (June 13 & 14): 12:00 – 4:00 PM
In this four-day, hands-on workshop, teaching artist Matt Presutti will guide participants through the foundational techniques of handmade paper, with an emphasis on sustainable practices. Whether you’re new to papermaking or looking to deepen your process, this workshop offers both structure and space to explore.
Day 1: Foundations Learn the basics of pulp preparation, beater operation, and sheet formation.
Day 2: Material Exploration Work with rag paper, recycled materials, and natural fibers.
Days 3 & 4: Open Studio + Expansion The weekend sessions shift into a more flexible, exploratory format. Participants are encouraged to bring their own materials, collaborate on shared pulp batches, and develop individual projects. This is a time to experiment, connect, and push your ideas further.
Special Feature: Fiber & Dye Garden Research
As part of the workshop, participants will attend a presentation on an ongoing fiber-and-dye garden experiment conducted through Ohio University. This research investigates the potential of regionally grown plants for papermaking and natural dyes—offering a glimpse into emerging, place-based material systems and the future of sustainable art practices in Appalachia.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of papermaking as both a craft and a contemporary art practice—rooted in sustainability, transformation, and creative reuse.
No prior experience necessary. All basic materials provided.
